When looking at the recent updates and announcement from Microsoft, it can easily be seen that they are going all-in on integrating Copilot into their product offerings.

It’s expected that Copilot is only going to get bigger and more integrated into our everyday products and services, so if you haven’t already embraced using the AI tool, maybe it’s time to get started.

With this blog post we will explore how you can access Copilot, what’s possible with it and explain how licensing it works.

What is Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot is an AI-driven assistant designed to enhance productivity by automating tasks and providing intelligent suggestions.

Powered by advanced large language models (LLMs), including OpenAI’s GPT, Microsoft have released several Copilots that integrate seamlessly with tools like Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365, along with additional Copilot tools for Security, Sales, and Service—helping businesses optimise their operations.

Copilot acts as a collaborative partner, understanding the context of your work and adapting to your style. Whether drafting emails, creating presentations, or analysing data, it reduces repetitive tasks, allowing users to focus on more meaningful work. Microsoft’s goal with Copilot is to make everyday tasks easier and more intuitive, redefining how work gets done.

How does Copilot work?

Microsoft Copilot functions through a blend of natural language processing, machine learning, and contextual awareness. Here’s a brief overview of how it works:

  • Natural Language Understanding: Copilot comprehends user inputs—like commands or queries—and translates them into actionable tasks, understanding intent and context.
  • Contextual Awareness: It tailors its suggestions and actions based on the specific content of your documents, emails, or chats, ensuring relevant assistance.
  • Data-Driven Insights: In Excel, for example, Copilot can analyse data, identify trends, and create visualisations based on a simple prompt, helping users make informed decisions.
  • Task Automation: Copilot automates repetitive tasks, such as drafting emails or scheduling meetings, by learning from your past actions and preferences.
  • Learning and Adaptation: It continuously learns from your interactions, becoming more personalised and aligned with your specific needs over time.

Integration with Microsoft Graph: By connecting with Microsoft Graph, Copilot accesses a wealth of contextual information across your Microsoft 365 environment, making its assistance more relevant and timely.
