Switching Dynamics 365 Partner

Can I change my Microsoft Dynamics partner at any time?

Yes. You are not locked to one partner. Microsoft allows Dynamics 365 customers to switch partners at any point, as long as there is no unresolved commercial dispute with the existing provider. The transfer is handled through a standard Microsoft form and does not require Microsoft’s approval of the new partner, you choose who you work with.

How much notice do I need to give my current Dynamics partner?

Check your current support contract, most include a 90-day notice period. If your contract renews annually, serve notice before the renewal date. Missing that window typically means another 12 months with your current partner. Mercurius IT recommends reviewing your contract terms early and can help you understand the timeline during a free assessment.

Will switching partner affect my live Dynamics 365 system?

No. The transfer is administrative, nothing changes in your live environment. There is no downtime, no data migration, and no disruption to your users. Your Dynamics 365 system continues running exactly as it does today. The only thing that changes is who supports it.

How long does the partner transfer process take?

The Microsoft Partner Transfer form itself takes a few working days to process once both parties are aligned. The full transition including onboarding to Mercurius IT’s MaxCare support, system review, and handover typically completes in 2 to 4 weeks. Mercurius IT manages the process end to end so your team does not have to coordinate between partners.

What happens to my Dynamics 365 licences when I switch?

Nothing. Your licences, subscriptions, and environment stay exactly as they are. Switching partner does not affect your Microsoft agreement or any customisations in your system. As part of onboarding, Mercurius IT reviews your current licence position to check you are on the right plan and not overpaying for unused capacity.

Do you support all versions of Dynamics 365?

Yes. Mercurius IT supports Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Project Operations, and Customer Insights (Marketing). Mercurius IT also supports legacy systems including Dynamics NAV (all versions from Navision 3.x onwards) and Dynamics CRM on-premises. If you are running it, Mercurius IT can support it.
