Common ERP Misconceptions: “My System Is Too Customised to Upgrade”

by | Apr 26, 2017 | Dynamics NAV Upgrade, Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Back when you first implemented your ERP, it made a lot of sense to add extra customisations to adapt the solution for your business needs but now you’re upgrading and it’s causing you more problems than it’s worth – sound familiar? In fact, the majority of customers come to us with this concern. You’ll be pleased to know that Mercurius IT won’t let heavy customisation stop you enjoying the benefits of the newest version of NAV!

Our plentiful experience of taking customers forward with customisations means we can advise on which customisations to keep and which to drop where new standard functionality can manage the same function. We carry out a detailed assessment before any work begins to ensure your upgrade is properly planned and well managed.

Where a customisation is so specific to your business that there is no similar standard functionality available, we recommend making full use of NAV’s new Extensions feature, taking customisations from the source code to sitting separately in extensions. This will save you time and money in the long run when future upgrades will be much more straight forward. You’ll also be happy to know that we treat data in customisations as we would in a legacy system, allowing it to be migrated when you upgrade.

Managing the upgrade of a heavily customised ERP system can feel overwhelming at times, but this simple process of understanding which customisations are still integral to business success and which can now be managed in NAV’s standard functionality helps to remove that stress.

To make life even easier, we’re offering a free 1-day Upgrade Audit by two leading NAV specialists. Just get in touch and mention the offer to claim your free report!
